If you’re reading this most likely you’ve recently gotten engaged, congratulations on that! Certainly you’re ready to start planning for that special day & there is many decisions you’ll be making. Some of them will even be in areas you have no experience in. So in this article I will help you to know what to look for in a wedding photographer. Some of these tips will apply to other wedding vendors as well!
Starting out take into consideration how you’d like your day to go. Move into looking for vendors with that in mind and don’t be afraid ask a lot of questions. Both you & each of your vendors need to be on the same page. I cannot stress enough about communication between couples & their wedding vendors. Make sure you have the all the details agreed upon & it will make for a smoother wedding day.
Secondly, be sure to throughly look at the photographers work, their website, business social media pages etc. Do you like their editing style? What about the composition & lighting? Each wedding is unique so no two will look the same but most photographers will have a similar “look” to the majority of their photos creating consistency within their galleries. Make sure this is a look you like & one you could see your wedding photos in. Most importantly you should like your photographers style because that’s what you will be getting!
In addition, does the photographer you’re interested in offer an in person or phone consultation? If not openly listed on their website, contact them and ask if they do. I believe it’s great to get to know each other before moving into contract signing, meeting in person is even better but if meeting isn’t applicable please at least speak on the phone to make sure everything sounds like it should. Go over the contract & what it includes to make sure you are both okay with it. Also you can get a good feel for their personality, that’s very important as well.
Like I just mentioned above getting to know your photographers personality is very important. Think of it like this, they will be spending the day with you on one of the biggest days of your life, also a day that can be a bit stressful so your personalities need to mesh well! If a high stress situation arrives within their line of responsibility you need to know they can handle it with grace. While not putting more on your shoulders but at the same time be able to notify you & keep you in the know.
Meanwhile a few obvious things to keep in mind is pick someone within your budget, make sure they are professional & legit, contracts are needed to keep both parties safe in this agreement. Choose someone that can be a friend and support system when needed.
Above all, don’t get over stressed, you will find the right vendors! Just do your homework & have fun, most importantly you’re getting married!
